The Daily Californian
I’ve spent almost three years at the Daily Cal, UC Berkeley’s independent student newspaper, growing from a reporter into a leader shaping how we engage with audiences. I began in the news department as a general assignment reporter, covering law and justice and later leading housing and transit reporting. In the spring of my sophomore year, I transitioned into the social media team as a deputy editor, and soon helped launch a new Audience Engagement department, becoming its first head editor. I now lead training as the Audience Engagement Training Manager, helping shape the next generation of social media and audience engagement strategies.

Audience Engagement Editing
In the summer of 2025, I became the first Editor of Audience Engagement, leading a new department focused on analytics-driven social media strategy. I managed the posting of news, arts, sports, and lifestyle content, and supervised a team of over 30. I also launched initiatives to grow our audience, including starting a Reddit platform, implementing same-day posting for timely coverage, and shaping our social media strategy around data insights. Within just a few months, these changes boosted our Instagram engagement by 231.9%, and our first Reddit post hit 100,000 views in 24 hours.
Seeing our strategies translate into real engagement made me realize how storytelling and social media can work together to reach communities, pushing me to think bigger about my role in shaping that connection.
Below are some examples of breaking news, special issues, and design posts I’ve published. Live Tweeting:
During the summer, I covered Chancellor Rich Lyons’s hearing on antisemitism at UC Berkeley, leveraging social media to live-tweet and distribute timely, accurate information to the campus community in real time.
Reddit Launch:
I proposed and successfully launched The Daily Californian’s Reddit account, which gained over 100K views on its debut post. To ensure sustainable growth, I created posting templates and best-practice guidelines for new producers, helping the publication engage with broader Reddit communities.
News Reporting
For more than five years, journalism has been my way of exploring the world through questions and amplifying voices that might otherwise go unheard. I strive to uncover stories that matter, spark conversation, and create tangible impact in the communities I cover. To me, reporting isn’t just about telling events—it’s about connecting people, sharing perspectives, and helping readers see the world in new ways.
